Bicycles and iPods

(Thanks for the inspiration: Gwadzilla's post from 11/3; and to Eayste over at the Universe for the reminder of just what it's like to cycle in SD)

man
no earbuds
notime
noway
nohow
no never
ever

not even
on the rural
roads of South Dakota
where the wind
is relentless
the prairie
is relentless
the need for
stimulation
is relentless

one
one
one
is the number
of times
it takes
for lack of awareness
to have
irreversible
consequences

but not for us

for those
who love us
depend upon us
entwine their lives
with us

one

No. Definitely no. Not in rural New York, either. All 6 senses need to be fully at your disposal when you're riding the road. Even then, you're subject to being hit by the random old lady who thinks you have no right to the road, and you can be taken down by an eager little dog who wants you to stop and play.
