The Jubilation of the Descent

the jubilation of the descent
isn't measured on the speedometer
but is measured
by the scenery
and the fresh air
and the company
and the rush
the completeness of the tuck
and the watering eyes
and the drool spreading from the corners of one's mouth toward one's ears

~

-OB it wasn't pretty but it was beautiful!

That sounds absolutely exhilirating. Welcome back to the 'sphere. You were missed. Figured you must be off summer traveling.

Thanks Limes. Summer is for days away...days away riding rolling farm country, days away painting the stairwell, days away at reunions (#30 coming up soon!).

Recently we were off in the hills of Wisconsin with 30 of our favorite people...living in a tents, riding the coulees. Whew!

I have 'sperience in the educators summer ebb and flow. I instinctively knew you had stuff going on. GOOD for you! That is gorgeous green country.

Add to that the feel of taking the tight turn, cutting the right line, lean hard, weight on the outside pedal, and whoosh, through it, heart beating from the rush and the terror! Well, that was my morning descent... Taking the same ride thousands of miles apart!

I so need a ride like that. But at least I saw the view from afar!

Descents are awesome especially after you work really hard laboring up a hill to get to one.

I'm kind of thinking that Jens Voite (SP)wouldn't agree that descents are much fun these days though.

You forgot the bugs up the nose or in the mouth, not more than a calorie or two, but all the same, I admire their sacrifice to keep me going. :-D

Downhills are God's gift for climbing and living a good life.
He will be angry if we don't enjoy them every time we get the chance.

Twenty percent on the way up, seeing my age on the speedometer on the way down, life simply couldn't get any better!

Just how much drool are we talking, here?

When we complete a descent, I think we feel like we've cheated death yet once again. Makes you feel alive!

Along with the drool is a bugs-in-the-teeth grin spreading from ear to ear. Great post!
